Round Toe Pattern for Toe-Up Socks

With this pattern you can make round toe for a toe-up sock for almost any yarn and gauge. The increases are distributed evenly around the sock so that the increase lines won’t be visible. Just enter the total amount of stitches you wish to have for your sock and you’ll get the instructions for the increases.

The cuff-down version of this pattern you can find here.

If you are looking for an easier pattern see the rounded barn toe pattern for toe-up socks.

  1. Hello! Thank you for so generously sharing this pattern! If I’d like to increase one more time for 64 stitches, how many rounds would you recommend knitting before the final increase? Thank you.

    1. Hi Rita! I would recommend knitting at least one round after the previous round but if you follow the formula precisely you can knit up to 7 plain rounds before the final increases. The number of plain rounds really doesn’t change the shape that much when you are already at the final increases. -Ida

  2. Thank you so much for the calculator, very clever! In my humble opinion, rounded toes are the only to go. For my foot anyway.
I have a question: I knit my socks 2AAT magic loop. I can’t seem to wrap my head around m1L at the beginning of a rnd using the Purl Soho tutorial. It seems to me you would have to knit 1 first and then increase. What am I missing here?
Thank you for your help, fey

    1. Hi Fey! Sorry it took me so long to answer. But if it helps you can do for instance a yarn over increase at the beginning of the round and then on the next round knit it through the back loop. -Ida

  3. Been looking for a nice rounded toe for my socks, finally found it ,won’t be using anything else!,! Just perfect!!! Many, thanks

  4. I casted on 12 stitches on each needle, will this work for that. Knitted 3 rows, but not sure what to do now. It’s going to be a cover for my fingerless gloves.

  5. I was looking for such a toe cap schema. Thanks! Like the total sock as well. Is this your pattern and is it available to semi-geeks? LOL There are so many great knitters in Finland that I just have to learn some Finnish so that I can grok the boss pattern they crank out. Thanks again! TTYL …. “Duke of Purl” on Ravelry

    1. Thanks Duke! It is my pattern and I started writing it but for some reason I did not finish it. I’ll try to get it done this autumn and I’ll let you know on Ravelry when its done. I’m glad to hear you like the finnish design!

    1. Thank you Diane! I started to write a pattern a year ago but for some reason I did not quite get it done. Maybe I could try to find time to finish it this autumn.

  6. Just found this and I’m so excited and grateful you are sharing. My question is about your directions. After I cast on the 4 sts, do I knit 3 rounds of 8 total sts BEFORE I begin increases? Thanks, in advance , for any help.

    1. Yes, but if you have thick yarn you can also knit just one or two rows before beginning the increases.

  7. OMG!!! I’ve been searching and searching and searching for something like this. I like a rounded toe, but didn’t know how to do it both for myself and for a baby sock. This is amazing!! Thank you!!!
