This onesie is worked seamlessly top-down. The body is worked flat until underarms and then joined for knitting in the round. Lastly, the button band and neckline are worked.

Measurements given in the schematics table are for the finished garment. When selecting the size please note that babies grow at very different rates. Choose a size according to your baby’s bust measurement. Select a size that is a little bit wider than the baby’s bust. You can easily adjust the length of the sleeves and body.

56, 68, 74 (80, 86) cm
23 sts and 36 rows per 4″ inches (10cm) with bigger needles in stockinette after blocking.
Scrap yarn, 8 stitch markers, tapestry needle, 5 buttons with a diameter of approximately 0.6″ (1.5 cm)
US4 30″ (3.5mm 80cm) circular needle and for the ribbing US2.5 30″ (3mm 80cm) circular needle.
Adjust needle size to obtain the correct gauge.
The onesie on the images is knitted with fingering weight superwash merino wool Sandnes garn Babyull Lanett (50g = 191yds / 175m) in colorway 6062 (dark blue).

Begin raglan shaping and increase at each side of the raglan seam on RS rows as instructed below. At the same time begin the neckline shaping and make increases at the end of both RS and WS rows.

1st set of neckline increases: CO 1 st (sample uses the knitted CO method), turn your work, p to end CO 1 st

On the next WS row begin working in spots pattern on row 4. Work the pattern on sleeves and body and work the raglan sts in stockinette.
Center the pattern repeat on both sleeves and the body separately by starting the repeat from the stitch number according to the table below. S refers to stockinette.
For instance, if you make size 3 months you should work the row as follows: work 1st, 4th, 3rd, 2nd, 1st, 4th … st of spots pattern to first marker, sm, p2, sm, work 1st, 4th, 3rd… st of spots pattern to marker, sm, p2, sm, work 3rd, 2nd, 1st, 4th … etc.

Work in pattern until your work measures
3.75, 3.75, 4.25 (4.75, 4.75)″ [9.5, 9.5, 10.5 (11.5, 11.5) cm] from mid back.
Next round: from BOR work in pattern to first marker, remove the marker, k1, place the next 26, 28, 30 (32, 32) sts on scrap yarn for the sleeve (remove the second and third marker), CO 8, 8, 8 (10, 12) sts for underarm, k1, remove the fourth marker, work in pattern to fifth marker, remove the marker, k1, place the next 26, 28, 30 (32, 32) sts on scrap yarn for the sleeve (remove the sixth and the seventh marker), CO 8, 8, 8 (10, 12) sts for the underarm, k1, remove the eight marker, work in pattern to BOR.
A total of 92, 100, 104 (112, 116) sts for the body.
Work in spots pattern until your work measures 7.5, 7.75, 8.25 (8.75, 9.5)″ [19, 20, 21 (22, 24) cm] from underarm.
From BOR work in pattern 22, 24, 25 (27, 28) sts, BO 2sts, work in pattern 44, 48, 50 (54, 56) sts, BO 2sts.
A total of 44, 48, 50 (54, 56) sts for the front. Continue working the front flat, the sts for the back are on hold.
Decrease every round 5, 6, 6 (7, 8) more times. A total of 30, 32, 34 (36, 36) sts remaining.
Decrease every other round 7, 8, 9 (10, 10) times a total of 16, 16, 16 (16, 16) sts remaining.
Work 3 more rows in seed stitch pattern, BO using the icelandic bind-off method.
Work the decreases the same way as with the front piece. Work 1.5″ (4 cm) in seed stitch pattern. BO using the icelandic bind-off method. Break the yarn.
Place held stitches of a sleeve on larger needles, pick up and knit 4, 4, 4 (5, 6) sts from underarm, pm, pick up and knit 4, 4, 4 (5, 6) sts from underarm.
A total of 34, 36, 38 (42, 44) sts for the sleeve.
Work 4.5, 5, 5.5 (6, 6.5)″ [11.5, 12.5, 14 (15.5, 16.5) cm] in spots pattern.
Decrease evenly 6, 6, 6 (8, 8) sts. Take smaller needles and work 1.5, 1.5, 2 (2, 2)″ [4, 4, 5 (5, 5) cm] of ribbing k1, p1. BO using the tubular bind-off method.
With the RS facing you beginning from right front with smaller needles pick up and knit 36, 48, 48 (48, 48) sts for the neckline edging.

Work 4 rows in seed stitch pattern and BO using the Icelandic bind-off method.
With RS facing you beginning from the bottom of the right front pick up and knit 3 sts in a row, skip the 4th. Continue picking up sts all the way up. Work 4 rows in seed stitch pattern and then make button holes from 0.5″ (1.5 cm) upper and lower end.
1 buttonhole = yo, k2tog.
After the button band work two rows in seed stitch pattern and BO using the Icelandic bind-off method.
With RS facing you beginning from top of the left front piece pick up and knit 3 sts in a row, skip the 4th. Continue picking up sts all the way down. Work 8 rows in seed stitch pattern and BO using the icelandic bind-off method.
Sew 2 buttons onto the left button band and 3 at the bottom of the body. Weave in ends and block the onesie.
